Short Synopsis

A short documentary on the great red-chariot festival of Rato Machhindranath — the Kathmandu Valley's longest-running rain-god procession.

Extended Synopsis

Rato Machhindranath tracks the annual month-long chariot festival that carries the red god of rain from Pulchowk to Bungmati and back — the oldest continuously observed festival in the Kathmandu Valley. Through the eyes of the Guthi priests, the wheelwrights and the crowds who pull the tower-chariot down narrow streets, the film asks what it takes to keep a festival alive for more than a thousand years.
